Cichlids with plants

I tried to put amazon swords with my cichlids but my plants start growing dark hair like algae... Anyone know why that happens and can tell me how to fix this issue? I've been dosing search flourish and excel.

I suspect that there might be different types of cichlids and catfish.

With plants like jungle Val that have runners, you can pop the leaves through the spaces of a chunk of egg-crate, and then pin the egg-crate to the bottom with a larger stone or piece of driftwood. The egg-crate acts as a barrier against digging and allows the plants roots to establish themselves.
