Hey guys so i have a question here, one of my smaller tanks is a 30 gallon & is home to a convict cichlid & green terror cichlid. They are both similar in size the convict may be slightly larger. Now heres the problem, i have had both of these fish for a while & the convict has always been more of a bully (chasing, stealing food & more) but as of right now i just watched my green terror for the first time ever go after my convict, he put him in a corner of the tank and was just attacking him like crazy. The convict cant leave this corner without getting chased and like i said ive never seen my convict being the one chased before. Any ideas of what i could do? Heres a current picture of the situation

I have work in an hour & i feel as if im going to come home to a dead convict

Separate them
Yeah thats what i was thinking, the only issue is i cant put him in my larger tank because the asain redtailed catfish will rip him apart even worse. I do have a 20 gallon long tank laying around but its not cycled or anything.

Use a divider. If not then put a bunch of things in there to break up line of sight but it will probably end with death with only 2 fish in a tank that size

I agree with P PYRU two Cichlids in the 30 gallon. You will have that problem until like stated one gets beat up badly or killed. The rule in most cases is have more than two Cichlids if they are provided with proper space for territory. A pecking order will be established.

Set the 20 gallon up and use some media from one of the other tank's filters to transfer the beneficial bacteria to the new tank, if done right it will bypass the need to undergo a new cycle. Or, you could get a divider and keep them both in the 30 for now.
Though, you will need a 75 gallon for the green terror, the 20 or 30 won't last long. And this behavior is typical; two cichlids together even to grow out rarely works, dominant one bullies the other. Sounds like the GT got tired of getting picked on and as it grows larger than the convict, may eventually kill it.

You know its funny, ive been keeping tanks for a few years but i guess i pulled a rookie mistake and got the green terror not thinking it needed a tank of that size. Shouldve done my research without spontaneously taking the fish. Like i said i do have a large tank as well but theres no way hes surviving with the asian redtailed catfish i guess my best bet is picking up a 75 gallon and establishing it as fast as possible or just handing the GT over to someone else.

So i get out of work in 2 hours, hoping when i get home the convicts not dead. You think if i take some media and put it in a fresh new 20 gallon he could stay in there for maybe a week or two until i get another tank? Like i said i do have a very large tank but dont trust him with the fish that are in there. So it seems this is the only option
