I just got a new tank measuring l191cm x w45cm x h85cm. It will have about 140kg of gracel and rocks.

Can i use cinder blocks (like in the pic) as the legs of my stand and then put a re-inforced wodden top or will the tank be too heavy?

I've done it before and never had any problems, and have even seen pics of a glass tank supported on only the ends by cinder blocks; no wood across the top, nothing in the middle. Pretty crazy IMO, but it was a pet store and I guess had been set up this way for years. I'd make the cinder blocks as wide as the tank, have a sheet of plywood on the top, and probably do one stack in the middle just for piece of mind - they're cheap, and extra insurance for stands is never a bad thing!

The blocks will hold, but I would be worried if you don't have any support below the length and width of the tank. If you just have the block legs then it will produce a lot of center pressure and split the seams or crack the tank altogether. Support the bottom well and keep the tank level the blocks will hold no problem, just make sure they are not too tippy.

A sump has to go in the bottom. so i cant put a middle stack, thats what caused me to come ask here.

Thanks for the reply though.

I was planing on making a frame with supports going length ways and width ways.

Sorry not quite sure what you mean tippy. ??

Also could i just packed the blocks on top of eachother or do the need cement between them?

Thanks for the replies.

I know someone that has his tanks on cinderblocks.Looks scary to me but he says they are very sturdy

Just make a generic 2X4 top frame and put it on top of the cinder blocks it should work just fine. Maybe place a few cross braces in your frame for extra support in the middle.
