Circulation pumps.

You have a great looking tank. And the fish look like they are in excellent health.

That being said, I agree with Dan that you may have too much stock for the long - term. It's not an immediate issue, but something you might see down the road.

Thank you. I'm planning on getting another 125 when Petsmart has them on sale again. I eventually want to get a 500 gallon, too.

Imo if your using cannisters it's better to try keep most of the solid waste in the main tank and syphon it out regular then have sucked into the fx6 and then have to strip that down weekly to clean it.
On a side note I don't think you have enough water volume for the stock you have.
I agree with this, having pumps push gunk into filters is just like sweeping it under rug, because its still in the water.
Better to regularly vacuum it (and the nitrate it breaks down into) out.

I agree, which is why I don't use canister filters any more. Canister filters are great but I found that I did not clean them nearly as often as I should when I used them.

The OP is using HOB filters. One of the things I like about HOB filters is they are much less work to clean than canisters which usually means they get cleaned more often. As long as the OP is cleaning his HOB filters regularly before the gunk breaks down into nitrates I think that directing the detritus into the filters is a great idea... it is probably easier than siphoning out the detritus off the bottom so it will probably be done more often. Yes, I am lazy, but what ever is easiest for removing the gunk out of the tank has my vote.

Pre-filters on canister intakes are great for keeping debris out of it. Remove and rinse daily. I use the eheim pre-filters on my eheim canisters. Since adding them, the longest part of canister maintenance is the lubrication of the o-rings.

I actually just ordered a Sicce Voyager HP 10, which has a flow rating of 4,000 GPH. It should be more than sufficient for a 125g and be able to implement it into a larger custom tank I am still planning for once I have the funds in place.
