Having troubles with CK's lasting for one week and falling over. I puchased a pair of CK's from the local PS. They seemed to do great for a week or so.
I housed them with 1 marbled angel fish and 12 neon tetras in a 29 gal tank.
They ate 1/2 of the tetras, then the first one layed down on its side on the bottom of the tank sligtly upside down and wouldn't move without provocation. lasted about 3 days and then gave up and died. 4 days later the 2nd CK did the same manuver. I had both replaced and tryed again thinking that possably virus ect.. :irked: They too lasted about 2 weeks and started curling up upside down in the bottom and would not feed ect... and died.
I did try to feed blood worms, shrimp pellets and flake.
I have now replaced the 2 CK's with a single bicher and a rope fish. They have been going strong for 3 weeks now and feeding great! :grinno:
My main question is what could be happening to the CK's that is not affecting the rest of the tank? Angel is growing fine about 2 1/2 inches now, the neons that survived seem to be doing great!(a little bit jumppy now!) The new tank mates rope fish and bicher feed and apeer heathy.
Using standard under gravel filtration. doing 20-25% water changes every 2 to 3 weeks ect...
Any Thoughts?????

check your water parameters
ck's need excellant water
i would do atleast a 30% water change per week

What kind of filteration do you have on your tank?
What's the Temperature?
Did they look beat up or anything?

Lack of Osmoregulation..? Try Aquarium Salt?

Often Clown Knives carried by LFS's are juveniles often kept in crowded conditions and salted water when being distributed.

I'm just using under gravel filtration right now.:( I plan on at least moving to a biowheel. I do believe that they seemed a little bit crouded at the store. 1/2 dozen or so in the same tank, with spotted gar and small arowana all juvinile. Thanks for all the suggestions. would the salt cause problems with any of the other tank mates. Rope fish, bicher and marbled angel?
