I have a group oh 30 something ranging from 3 inches to 1.5 inch when I got them eight month ago...now they are 4 inches to 2.5 inches with one slightly bigger and a couple at 2 inches. they are not fast growers but they do grow noticeably when small.

Some grow to be giants and some don't. Example from one of my pick ups a few months back:

5 clowns brought in the same time and 5 years old. Sizes are 5", two 6", 8.5", and 9" Thickie Fattie grown in a 55 gallon.

Extremely slow growing as others have said. They seem to grow "quickly" (relatively) up to about 3" and from there on, it's mighty... mighty slow. I think they can live to be 40ish, apparently. I haven't heard of one older than about 25 though. Either way, they live a really long time lol.

Anybody keep logs? I plant on creating a log that would basically monitor the loaches growth.....probably weekly until they hit 3-5 inches and then monthly...just to see if thier is any kind of trend. I will be getting them at a small size 1-1.5 inches however Im confident that they will thrive at this size.

Life Span I wold say defintly more then 15-20 years....biggest clown loach I think was 16 inches (probably still alive)....and to get that size defintly took more then 10 years at least....once they get to the 4-5 inch mark it's basically a inch every year (or year in a half)...according to some members.

Did a google..and came across some comments in other forums claiming that the oldest clown was a 60 year old 16 inch feamle clown....very very fat!
Guess clown loaches are another thing to add to the will. lol

Hi, I have a pair of Clown loaches. I was given a pair to look after cos a lady had had them 19years and now I have had them for nearly 20. The thing is one died about 5 years ago but i had another in a tank my son was giving up so put it with the remaining old one. The old one is acting normal but has started to look old and a little boney so I wondered how old they lived and came on here. Mine are both about 6 inches but quite round as they matured and i feel sad that the 40 odd year old one is indeed old so I probably can't change the weay he is looking. The other one is fine. All I can think is that it is doing it's usual behaviour, feeding etc so i happy in a way, but is probably on his way out....

Interesting read. I had some clowns that grew fast from a 1.5 inches to 3.5 inches in a couple of months. Fed them bloodworms, tubifex, shrimp and various pellets. They were beyond greedy.
