Yeah dont tell the feds, but i tried it too. Three fish later i was done with it. Took out a pearl cat, a rhino ple*co, and my LSN. Three catfish are not worth one. So my advice would be to stay away from these guys.

I dont know where they get them from. But they even sell them as clarias or walking cats. So i dont think that the stores are aware that they are illegal.

a LFS near me got in perch the other day. like, literaly sun perch.

It varies by state. There is a list somewhere of Nationally listed illegal species. The big three are snakeheads (all) clarias cats, and asian aros.

Normally i dont support the possession of illegal fish. And especially now i dont support it. These are not catfish that novice fish keepers should have. I didnt understand their predatory nature before, but now that i do i would not recommend this cat to just anyone. There is a reason these species are illegal, and i think people should respect the fact that there is a reason behind it.

I'll truely take this as a learning experience, and be sure to inform my LFS to be aware of the laws and the possible penalties that they could be facing.

I've noticed this to and its really tempted me to get one but i'm not sure if its the right fish for me i've heard they can get pretty aggressive and its kinda hard to make a thread asking info on an illegal fish without people getting a little suspecious so i think i will hold off

What do you mean by that?

He means that by posting stuff like this or telling people about it you run the risk of getting LFS shut down and getting peoples ( yourself included ) fish taken away and leaveing them with a heafty fine as for The lack of knowledge part i'm sure hes reffering to how these fish and others became illegal

So some times its best to ask the LFS owner to step out side for a second and wisper to him the situation and let him make an informed decision if they do not heed your warnning mabye wait till no ones around and buy the fish your self and disspose of them properlly ( this is risky for obvious reasons )
