I Would suggest fake as well. Sexing calvus is kind of hard sure to their super slow growth rate. The female is smaller. Thats about the only way to tell.

You should do a school of cynitilapia. They are awesome fish. Great personality and fantastic color.

O_O pp is acutally working on an afican tank?? never thought I would see the day... even if they are not yours lol.

great job, tank looks nice!

Yeah Cynotilapia afra 'cobue' was my choice if I did Mbuna for sure. :)

How do you sex the Neolamprologus though?

I am truly torn on this. Not sure which would look better in this type of tank setup. The Tangs. would look awesome with the slate and sand, but how would the Mbuna do? Just want to make sure there is enough hiding places and nooks and crannies to get away.

Would I be able to have Neolamp. cyndrilicus and Neolamp. leleupi in this tank? Or would there be issues? I love them both and their colors would offset each other splendidly, especially with some shellies in there. Thoughts?

What size is this tank?

Tis only a 46gal corner. . . might be larger, but thats what I was sold it as. I wouldn't push it any further than 50gal though. Its definitely not a small tank, but not really all that large either.

Cylindricus are awesome! They don't get large. I'd do a pack of 6 if i were you, and nothing else.

with all that rock you have about 25 gallons of water.I would take some out allowing a higher water volume.

I agree with MsMassPoly, I think you could accomplish that concept with 25% less rocks. If you want, you could keep some live plant in there. I have jave fern and anubias glued to smaller rocks. They are easy, low light, and africans won't eat them.

BTW, any teacher that has a fish tank must be the coolest on campus!!!

Twas a pain in the booty hauling all that rock up there and getting it situated, I don't think I'm going to take any out any time soon. Fewer fish doesn't bother me any. It only goes up about half the tank in the back anyway, so there is really about 30 or 35gal still open.

Would the cylindricus and leleupi work together or not? If I take some rocks out and then redo it, there might be less hiding places, but would that work better?

As for the plants, probably a no go. I kill duckweed. :( If I do plants they will most likely be plastic.

I've never tried it before, but have been told from a couple of folks that cylindricus and leleupi will pick each other off and/or interbreed. While they have totally different coloration, they are nearly the same fish in terms of body shape, behavior and aggression.

I'd do one or the other and toss in a single pair of calvus or comps. My cylindricus share a heavily scaped 40B with some red fin comps and caudopunks and they pretty much all ignore each other.
