How often should I clean my canister filters and my hob filter. I have had my tank.up and running for over 7 months and I still have ammonia. I dont know what I am doing wrong

Ok I have 3 canister filters should I clean one every week..

I'd clean them all once a week. Just do them on different days like do 1, then the next day do another and since you have 3, you can probably clean 1, maybe 2 on the day of a wc.

i havent cleaned my canisters in over a year and there still fine.. Looks like another problem as in over feeding, left over food trapped on the floor or overstocked.
 
First off, what size is your tank, what's your stock, and what filters are you running?. Pics of stock and filters would greatly help.

You might be not be getting enough filtration capacity for your bio load. You might not have enough bio media. You may be way over feeding. There's plenty of factors. If your filtration is adequate, you should be able to go months without cleaning your filters. As Joe said, a good indicator is when your return flow slows
 
Cleaning them once a week seems a bit much unless you have a huge bio load
