Clean up crew for Centrals..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok well I would like to say I am stocking the 180 right now.. but there is a slight issue with the tank, so!! I have been visiting the local shops and finding juvies. I came across a shop with some spotted raphaels in that are from 1-2" in length. They are cool, prefer them to the striped, but anyways, I see seriously fish suggesting I should keep 4 or more.. While the shop still has some anyone else want to share experience keeping a few as opposed to a single? They didn't have many left, but the issue is my stock is currently piling into a 20g while I wait for the tank to be swapped out. (all my stock is currently less than 1.5" long. 3 Polleni, 4 Cubans, and so far 1 Raphael, oh and half a dozen swordtails to amuse them but they are in the 15g next door for now)

Gonna lose them all when I put them in the 180g in a few weeks, they are so small I won't be able to find em, bet they will love it.

skurj, I have a lone Spotted Ralph in my 135gal and rarely see him. They are mostly nocturnal but he will venture out during feeding time. From what I have read, they are said to be quite gregarious in the wild and can be found in groups. I plan on adding a couple more to my community in hopes to make my current lone wolf feel a bit more comfortable.

I have one spotted and one striped Raphael. Both are well over 5 years old. Spotted is only out at night and is slightly smaller. Striped is over 8 inches long and patrols the darker areas even during the day. They do not gather together and ignore each other. This is based on my experience. Good luck.

Sent from my fish dungeon via MFK app.

thanks.. As much as I like the spotted, I may just pick up a variety of cats over time I think.. It would be cool to see 3-4 of the spotted being brave in the day but that mebbe expecting too much.

Skurj, if you want an active armored cat I'd recommend you look into some of the Hoplo species..

For algae im not sure but for food scraps I love my horsefaced loaches, they do a great job cleaning and if threatened they will simply dive into the sand.

How do the African syno cats do with centrals?

Here is a strange suggestion . Hap 44's are great for clean up crews. They are fast . They are colorful and most of all they clean up all the extra food and sift the sand.

What are the suggested clean up crew for a tank with large aggressive centrals? (Cuban, RTM etc)

Planning a 6ft tank 180g, I'm a fan of plecos (more than catfish) but no clue what stands a chance in a tank like that.

I have a pack of 6 cory cats, and two striped Raphael catfish. They keep my sand clean and they share a tank with a festae, trimac, syn, vieja, and paratalapia
