hey there; just thought i'd mention i need a fish that can cope with sand substrate? also i was wondering if there is a type of BIG shrimp, or even small lobster that will eat scraps and tolerate brackish water? thanks.

No on the Lobster, yes on the shrimp. Macrobrachium rosenbergii, it will also eat any fish it can catch. Any of the tilapia and the callichthys do fine on sand as will the awaous.

The callicthys is just sold as callichthys catfish. Sometimes called cascarudo. they are a common cat found throughout SA but they only show up occassionally. I saw a tank full of 2" ones at a wholesaler's in Miami, They are not expensive if you find them. You see them on aquarist's classified.UK, and Scotcat.UK fairly often.

i never thought u can acclimate fresh water fish for salt water.. it just seems abnormal to me. why dont u get a snail and a cleaner shrimp (or peppermint shrimp). they are great looking little guys
