What would be the best way to clean AC filter sponges so they can be reused the only ways I've thought of would be a vinegar water mix or hydrogen peroxide. Would either of these work?

I use really hot water and some times vinegar if it is really bad. I don't know about the "hydrogen peroxide". i wouldn't want to use that but i don't know if might be perfectly safe.

I rinse mine out in tank water about every other week. If you keep up with it when you start with new ones, the flow rate never suffers much, and you don't totally wipe out any nitro bacteria either.

Do you have any other filters on the tank?

its the only filter on the tank
i rinse it out with tank water but it starting to get discolored but flow rate isnt suffering i was just wondering how to make it completely clean

In my AC110's I only use two sponges.

I never use any chemicals to clean them because that's where all your good bacteria live.

I simply rinse them under tap water and ring them out until the water is clear.

I've never had an issue with ammonia spikes or anything like that.

instead of rinsing it in the tank.take a bucket and fill it with tank water and clean the sponge in there.so none of the dirt or anything gets back in the tank
