cleaning AC filter sponges

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just rinse it out in the sink; i don't care if its discolored since with age, it will become discolored, and i try to rinse most of the gunk out but don't keep rinsing it over and over until it's clear cause i want to keep as much of the nitro bacteria intact as possible.

Unless you have well water, the chlorine/chloramine has done the damage.

I have 3 ac 110s on my 125 gal ,i rinse the sponge under luke warm tap 1 a month alternating each.never had a proplem,i do 30%water changes weekly

They do discolor with age but it's nothing to worry about. I like to have at least one extra set on hand of all the filter media. that makes normal maintance a lot faster...especially on multiple tanks...Then when I have the time I rince off the secound set so they are ready to go. This works out very well for us because because we dont rely on the sponges for biological filtration. Thats handled by other systems.
