My Ocean Clear canister filter cartridge is giving me fits cleaning it. I'm on a well with very fine silt in the water, it is plugging up the cartridge on my filter. I can remove most of it by rinsing it off outside with a garden hose, but the flow is still reduced compared to when new. Any suggestions for thoroughly cleaning this thing?

Its good to have a spare one when it comes to maintenance, take the dirty one and dip it on a bucket with chlorine overnite, then rinse well next day, they last for years.

Will the chlorine take care of the fine silt? I do have a spare filter.

I know chlorine(bleach)will get rid of all organics from pleated filters.
Not sure how it would have any effect on silt.
Pretty sure you would need to blast it off with a powerful water stream.

How often does one need to clean one of these I have been looking for an inline filter that wont need cleaned every week to put before a bead filter.

I have a Nu-Clear 533 w/25 micron filter. It takes a couple of months before
my gauge will read 10psi that is when I will replace with my spare
filter.

If it is the same material as a swimming pool filter, muriatic acid dilute with water will clean it up easily by soaking it for a short time. Of course, you should hose off what will comes off with the water hose. The acid will dissolve the lime deposits and organics at the same time. You do need to be careful when working with acid( eye protection / long sleeve shirt / gloves ). Good Luck.
