I have a couple LARGE pieces of drift wood i got out of a local lake. how is the best way to clean them to put in my big tank? I power washed them and have been soaking them in a 100 gal Rubbermaid tub for now. any advice?
i power washed it at water hose temperature water . boiling is far far from possible. when i say large piece i mean 50+ lbs and 4 ft long at the longest.....it's almost ad stump like piece.
don't do what I just did yesterday; give them a quick hose then dump them in your tank. I've got a thin layer of oil/scum on the top. Lucky there's no fish, I'm just going to do regular water changes untill most of the tannin is gone and the oil/scum disappear.

well ive got some really big pieces in a tank, all i did was scrub them down with a brush, and soak them for a few weeks-changing the water when it was dark with tanins-they still leached for a few months but that was about it.
If it's a large piece of driftwood, you definitely want to make sure that it is waterlogged.
I tried putting some large driftwood in my 125 and it didn't work. It was not waterlogged so the pressure was pretty extreme to try and get it underwater
