I put mine in the washing machine with a little bleach. Works just fine.

are you talking about the 2 part sponges that encircle the trays, if so i just rinsed them out in clean tank water and stick them back in.

I have used my washing machine once when I did my filter socks and It did ok, but what I usually do is when I do my water change, I fill 2 5gal buckets with tank water, and rinse them in the buckets. The one bucket is for the first rinse, and the other bucket gets the rest of the stuff off of the foam. I usually just put the pad to the bottom and swish it around. Works better than the washing machine IMO and it takes about a quarter of the time.

If you have your baskets filled with bio media, then just give the foam sponges a blast with the hose, no need to rinse in tank water.
