cleaning fx5 foam

I'm talking about the foam sponges that imcorcle the basket, there's a Ron of debris that gets stuck in there. No way a simple rinse would get them clean enough. I'm gonna try the washing machine on gentle, I just hope it doesn't tear them up.

A simple rinse does the job for me.

exactly and clean them more often and they will clean easier.

maybe im just a clean freak. but i like them to be as clean as possible before putting them back in.
this way i can extend the time between cleaning intervals.
besides disturbing the bb, the fx5 is kinda a pia to clean.

What i was thinking of doing was buy a extra set and keep them in the sump so the bb buildes up on them ,and when you need to clean the ones in the filter just put the extra set in and put the old set in the washer . then after they are clean put them in sump , and start again.

The bb on the foam pads, that's what the bio media is for.

Me too. A quick swish in water for me and they're spotless.

Screw it, no matter how hard I clean mine, they just stay brown. I just toss them out and get new ones every 2 monthes.

Beat the crap out of them and don't be gentle. lol. There is no special way of cleaning them. You don't need to worry about BB or rinsing them in tank water. Just clean em good.
