And I don't think anyone really wants to know how I clean my hose...let alone watch.:banhim:

I do it like they run electrical wire. I made a pom=pom that jsut fit in the tube, attached a kite string to it, put it in the tube and applied water pressure behind it. A little tricky, but it worked. Then pulled the cable thru.

As far as bleach it concerned, a little gows along way. Bleach by itself won't kill all the algae without scrubbing the layers off as the bleach kills it.

Good luck.

Harley, I think he is talking about a Python for water changes
 I think you're right. My bad

But why not just run a bucket of clean water thru it?
And why bleach/disinfect? What's in the water that was changed is in the water left in the tank

Alot of agae can build up in the tubing between W/Cs, then breaks off and goes into tank on refills.

I have no clue how you guys change water, but I use one and the same hose to drain and to fill. I generally fill after draining :D which means the hose is washed out with about 300 gal of clean water ... Not only that, but I do not store my hose in the sun. Matter of fact, it hangs in the laundry room. And it is not a clear transparent hose but a green garden hose. No light means no algae growth ... just something to consider. It's an easy alternative to bleaching or scrubbing every time ...

I don't clean my python...like Harley K said, I just don't keep it in the sun. I bundle it together and put in the cabinet. But, my python is pretty new. I had to get a few replacement parts for it, but that's it.

How do you now?, if it's an opaque hose?...

Just not positive phototropic algae...:D

And garden hoses are not for potable water, they off-gas with poisonous results, Especially if put up wet and in a warm area.

If this is what you are using, you should stop or I predict your fish won't live another century...

Prove me wrong Grasshopper...

So do as I say...Not as I do...(hint hint)

Dr Joe

P.S. I've used efferdent to clean hoses I couldn't get a brush thru (and the little bridge and diver in my tank too).
