Hey i was just wondering how you all go about this and what the best way is because pretty soon im heading up to lake erie and getting some slate and some other nice rocks for my tanks and usually i just scrub them and put them in a 5 gal. bucket filled with scouring hot water and let them sit there for a while. Is there any secret pro method you all use?

BAKE?? what? i know for a fact due to experiance that if certain rocks are heated enough they will explode. its a long story but i put a couple lil rocks in a bonfire ... they exploded shot up my buddys pant leg and singed him right in the place u dont want a red hot rock. man did i feel bad

ill stick to boiling cant risk a rock exploding in my moms oven she'll flip!

its a rock, i never had any problem just spraying with hose and scrubing the dirt off. sometimes i will rinse with hot water. ive never soaked a piece of wood or rock. been keeping reptiles for 25 yrs and have done this with wood and rocks. never had a problem.

Bleach them.Put em in a bucket, fill the water just above the rock level, then put a couple of dabs of bleach in there.Let them sit for 8 hours or until cleanJust make sure you rinse the hell out of them once your done letting them sit.I rinse mine like 2 or 3 times, then scrub piss out of them.Once all that is done,I rinse them a couple more times. Then let them dry out.

um what kind of deadly reptile diseases are you harboring in IL that you go through that much trouble to rinse your rocks? are you afraid that they might catch what the cubbies had during the playoffs and choke? hahahaha couldnt resist!!!! seriously though, unless you got the rocks from the cage of a sick reptile, or something that was mite infested, and or out of the sewage treatment plant (before it gets treated) tehn i think its way overkill

i put them in the dishwasher, no soap, with the sanitizing heated rinse. i do it with the aquarium decorations too.

I clean mine using running water and a toothbrush:D Same for logs and cork. Never had any issue;)
