Bleach them.Put em in a bucket, fill the water just above the rock level, then put a couple of dabs of bleach in there.Let them sit for 8 hours or until cleanJust make sure you rinse the hell out of them once your done letting them sit.I rinse mine like 2 or 3 times, then scrub piss out of them.Once all that is done,I rinse them a couple more times. Then let them dry out.
ive heard of the 3% bleach cleansing before but im impartial to chemicals around herps

No more then 2 to 3 percent, and you will be fine.

besides, doesn't bleach evaporate?

so is submerging the rock in boiling water a sufficient cleansing?

um what kind of deadly reptile diseases are you harboring in IL that you go through that much trouble to rinse your rocks? are you afraid that they might catch what the cubbies had during the playoffs and choke? hahahaha couldnt resist!!!! seriously though, unless you got the rocks from the cage of a sick reptile, or something that was mite infested, and or out of the sewage treatment plant (before it gets treated) tehn i think its way overkill

Ha ha ha.. your funny guy! No seriously you are.

My point being is that if your getting these rocks from a dry area then that's one thing, but if your going to get them from a pond, lake or otherwise wet area then their going to be dirty as hell with algea, dirt and who knows what hell else on them.

I've gotten my rocks from a pond that use to be rock quarry. So most of them where partialy submerged in the pond. The only way I could ever get all that crap off them was by bleaching them.

So...."overkill" I trhink not!:D

Yeah,you don't want to use to much,as you don't really need but a 1/4 cup for a 5gal bucket.

I do it on the rock my fish tank,(fish) which are far mor sensitive, and they never had a problem with it.

Bleach KILLS, it destroys everything it comes in contact with. Chlorine is a terribly corrosive substance, and all bleach is is VERY diluted Chlorine.

i don't allow Bleach in my house.. almost anything can be killed with extreme cold (bacteria doesn't die when it freezes, it only becomes dormant till it warms up again), or extreme heat (this is how to kill bacteria). Plain white vinegar is a safe and effective cleaner, if you need to scrub something mix it with baking soda (and/or rock salt) and make a paste. it rinses completely and safely and if you miss some it won't kill your reptiles or fish.

wow this rly helps, even when i clean my aquarium i always have trouble getting algae off of the rocks.
