You can also try:
mr clean magic eraser original (no detergent). i think some people on reef forums use these
Bar Keeper's Friend. i think you can find this at walmart

I have also heard very good things about both of these products!

Yeah, I gave that a shot. This stuff was thick and dried for weeks, I couldn't even get residue off with the mr clean eraser.

On the brighter side of things, however, the muriatic acid worked like a champ. Was still pretty rough, but SO much faster than vinegar. I was able to do the entire tank in about the same time I had completed a very small portion with the vinegar. I mixed it in a spray bottle, sprayed and let it sit and fizz for a while, then took a scraper to it.

TBH, if the overflows weren't so covered in it, the glass you didn't even have to scrape, just respraying it a few times with a direct stream was enough force to do 75% of the glass. It took about a 1:10 ratio for acid/water. Towards the end I had to drop it because I had gotten to the stubborn portions that didn't want to come off. The last few square inches of the overflows were done in a 1:3 solution.

Glad it worked out for you, I recommend it all the time but I think people get scared because of it being pretty caustic. Works great for cleaning lime off of glass tops, plastic lids, strip lights, etc.

Nice, glad you found a solution. I'll have to try that next time if it worked so well.
