I haven't cleaned my filters in a month or to. My nitrates are really high even after doing water change so I thought about cleaning the filters. Should I clean all the media to or just take the trays out and just clean the canister. Also have 2 filters should I only clean one at a time. Or is both ok..

Id clean one and leave the other then in a month or so go ahead and clean the other. But dont do both. You will end up having a mini cycle. Dont want that.

Filters can become nitrate factories if not taken care of or cleaned properly. Based on your original post (but more dependent on size of tank and stock), your filters are nitrate factories.

Ooh, didn't read your post correctly about the ammonia. It is possible that you are really finishing the cycling process - or that your beneficial bacteria is being overwhelmed. Have you introduced any new fish recently or has there been some other recent change?

What do you mean there are nitrate factorys. Are they bad filters
