I collect a few stones each time i go fishing to put in the tank. Whats the best way to clean them. I will not boil them due to the grenade effect. I heard of using bleach, vinegar, or ph down. Ideas???

I rinse mine in some warm tap water and if necessary use a stiff brush to clean off any mud. After that the stones go right in the tank.

I put then in a 5 gallon bucket and full it up with the hottest water that comes out of my bathtub and let them soak. Then I usually drain and do it again after a bit. Then once it cools I give them a quick scrub and let them dry and they are good to go.

i have always cleaned then boiled my rocks before i put them in my tank. then let them cool thoroughly.

a 2:1 (water: bleach) solution is a perfectly viable method... chlorine evaporates in about 36 hours or so. Just leave the rocks out for 3 days and your good to go...alternatively soak them in dechlor and they're good right away. :)
Our service company does about 40 tanks a day and this is exactly what they do.

Agreed, bleach is a great tool for sterilizing all sorts of fish tank stuff and is easily neutralized with Prime. I'm just lazy sometimes. ;)
