clear water??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use a media in my filters called Pura Complete, or Purigen by Seachem. Look it up, awsome stuff

For whatever reason I have had problems with water clarity with one of my tanks. Pleanty of filtration and 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite water seemed pleanty healthy, but I wanted it clear also.

Anyway for me I found a UV filter very cheap so figured I would try it. It is a small 9 watt one and I put it in the sump with very small pump on it for slow flow through the UV (sucks from the sump back into the sump). It cleared things up for me completely.

i added an internal filter only filled with pollishing wool i wash it in tapwater every waterchange and its cleared my water

I would say - a good filter(s) big enough to handle the amount of water in the tank , make sure there is enough water movment in the tank , good amount of water changes once or twice a week (about 30+% each time IMO depending on how many fish are in the tank and how much waste their porduce) , dont feed your fish too much each time you feed them , dont leave the light on too long .

There is other thing to think about but at the moment i cannt think .

Regular waterchanges, overfiltration and not feeding excessive amounts.

How long do you leave the lights on in the tank? Is the tank near a window? I constantly deal with an algae bloom in one of my tanks because my kids wont leave the blinds shut, If I notice the tank is clouding up I just leave the light off for a day or two, and when I turn it back on its crystal clear. You could try to shorten the amount the lights are on in the tank by a few hours a day, hope this helps.
yeah i have my lights off right now and im seeing some improvements... plus i have to change my polishing pads in my cannisters so ill see how it goes from there.

Actually, clear water isn't always healthy. Even if your water is cloudy, your parameters are really good, so count your lucky stars.

true :headbang2

This must have been covered before, water change and excellent filtration does the job

As the earlier post said - your water could be black but if the parametres are good, which they are then your ok, although i reccomend the best filter you can afford and some fine filter pads.
