clearing up pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
we have a 500 gallon pond out back and we have two gigantic potted plants that are like 15" by 15" that we put in the shallow end of the pond, it clears up the water amazing, they get the nutrients before algae has time too. also get some hornwort and just let it float on the surface of the pond.

a uv light is the best IMO for algea, you say you have one, when did you last change the bulb?

yup, i think thats your problem. get a new bulb then see, it should clear within a week-to-two weeks

The trick I use to clear up the water (green water, murky water) is to use aquarium polyester in mass in my pond filter and change it every 2 days. I buy a 1kg bag for $17 but you can also buy via Ebay 7oz for $6:

Place the polyester media in a fine mesh machine laundry bag and then place it into your filter. Keep repeating until water clears.

UV won't help brown water....

Brown is from tannins or soil/silt run-off.
