If a cloned 100% pure mammoth isn't possible because we have no original clean (living) specimen and would need to be supplemented with an elephant egg or the likes to compare it to, how would we know that it is significantly stunted, retarded, overweight, short lived etc.. If the chickens we cloned look like chickens but do not live as long how would we know that from an extinct species with nothing behaviorally for comparison? If it looks good, it is good so roll with it?
I absolutely hate the idea from a microbe perspective. Bring back modified bloodlines of a creature who can potentially host new forms of disease is a terrible idea. You know some oil rich dumbass in Dubai is going to want to taste one (anything can be done for the right amount of money) and then bam we get a new form of aids or bird flu or whatever epidemic.. It's cool and I want to see one but I would rather freeze it or kill it with fire...
