1 large CT dat

I know many here keep Dats with rays without issue, but I personally won't do it again. I just got rid of a big IT. It was a friggin jerk to everything.

IF I was that ray in with some pups the only thing that would potentially intimidate me would be that thing....

How big is it?

I would divide the ray before i moved the ray if possible. Any chance someone stung her? Maybe she bit a stinger?

I had a pup eat a stinger and die before...

Hard call on moving her. If it were me I would move her because something is stressing or irritating her and you will not know if it is fish, ray, or system unless you move her to a new system and isolate her. The move may be stressful but the new environment will be less stressful if that makes sense. I use a tub and scoop the ray up so they never leave the water. That mark could be anything but could be a bite or a sting from the other ray. Does any of the other rays have the skin wore off the tip of their stinger?

No skin missing from other ray. She was the queen bee. Everyone gets along great. The dat has been with rays and other tank mates for years. No one bothers anyone. I am afraid to move her. She does that coughing thing every 10-15 minutes, the buries herself back in the sand. She is also the biggest ray in the tank. I'm at a loss. The hospital tank is all set up and ready for transport...I'm just afraid she won't make the move.

Everyone's skin is on everyone's stinger. I might divide her. But no one messes with anyone. I've watched this community quite often. The newest addition is the BD but he is as friendly as ever. Everyone genuinely minds there business...aside from the severums chasing each other very now and then. This is sooo frustrating.

He's a biggun...Maybe 13-15in. But both my wife and I so her spazz out and it was when the little 4in marble came near her (I don't even think she touched her)...and it was after I dropped in some tilapia. The dat has been with rays forever and even though she's only in with one dat, I used to have her in with two dats and several other big fish...the dat is a softy to ground dwellers.

Perhaps she swallowed a stinger from one of the pups when feeding and it's stuck in her. Could explain the "coughing". I had a 15" female BD die last year in similar fashion. Ate like a pig the night before and was dead the following afternoon. 3 other rays in the same tank with no problems. Hopefully she pulls through. I would suggest dividing as opposed to moving.

Really cant advise more than everyone else. My flower had one of these seizure like episodes and was never the same. She would unbrella all the time and have cough like synptoms. She was the most aggressive eater until it happened. She got to where if another ray came close she would just give up her food. I seperated and fed her heavily for about 6 months and then put her back amd she went down hill again never to recover. Had several former vendors/importers tell me she either had a stroke or seizure which could have been from the stress of importing.
Personally I think it was organ damage from treating her heavily for parasites and not eating for 4 weeks when I first received her.

In fact I have a video of her during the seizure on my youtube channel.

I am sure this isnt your issue, I am with others and believe its a stress issue.

Best of luck and hope she pulls through.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate all the feedback and advice...it reminded me of what I truly loved about this community.

After much thought and deliberation, I decided to move her for several reasons: 1) if she passed in the night, I wouldn't want her to taint the tank; 2) she was actually moving around enough so that I felt a little more confident that she could make the transition; 3) I got the temps to be almost identical in both tanks; and 4) if she doesn't make it, I would always wonder "What if I would've moved her?"

She is in a 55 gallon bare bottom with tons of aeration and dosed with prazi. She transitioned pretty seamlessly. I guess it is now just a waiting game. It does seem like maybe she ingested something she wasn't supposed to. It's still all very peculiar. She must be a tough cookie though because if you all would've seen the way she was curling, I'm betting everyone would've guessed she would've been dead by now.

Keep your fingers crossed...it's been quite a while since I've had to deal with this kind of fish drama. I guess it's all a part of the hobby.
