86 degrees would have been a paradise vacation for the discus!

Though the hotter the water gets the lower the oxygen is in the water versus a cooler temp

thats how sensitive the cardinals are =( I noticed when I had the air pumps off due to switching the power strip light and forgot to turn it back on for one night in the 84 degree tank and basically wiped out all but 2 of my cardinals due to that and everyone else was fine so attributed that to the oxygenation.

86 shouldn't be able to kill a fish if theres enough water movement o.O
but anyway, i've had problems with stealth too. temp swings a bit , i suspect its cuz their thermometer is not that accurate. AND, ive actually threw 2 stealth out because it leaked electricity ( numbed my hand , although it did felt interesting as it was tingly and sorta stinging, pretty sure that aint good for the fish though xD )

The fish will not get shocked because they are not grounded. The same way a bird can sit on a high voltage wire and not die. But if you went up there and touched it on a ladder :WHOA:

lol anything but stealths! I'm one of the thousands that started a rant thread against stealths

For heaters- I personally don't go for anything that's composed of glass (listed as shatterproof) is complete BS! My tough fish has managed to break every single one of them. The only heaters that has showed me steadfast heating without fail was the titanium heater types. There are several brands out there that sells them however hit up the reviews and judge for yourself though there are good heaters out there tho thats not only titanium heaters...
