thas so cool!
i remember there were a nesting pair of brimary kytes living in the building next to me.
that was cool.
but i never got 7-8 feet from them...except that time one of them flew by and hit my window.....

very cool, i've had 2 RT's in my yard in the past week. Both were chilling about 40ft off the ground in trees though. i had scared a bluejay out of a bush and one attempted to intercept the little guy, really crazy to see and hear.

I've never been this close to a wild hawk either except for when I worked at a raptor rehabilitation center one summer. When I was growing up we lived on a farm. When I would mow the fields on the tractor, a pair of Red Tails would sit on the fence posts watching me. They'd wait for me to kick up a rabbit, vole or mouse and then glide off the fence and pounce on it. I could get really close to them while on the tractor but never on foot.

beautiful bird and great shots.... your very lucky to have gotten to see that

Thanks Nic.

I talked to my neighbor this morning when I was leaving for work. He said that the hawk hung around eating that squirrel for another 20 minutes and then flew off with the rest of it. I still think it's really cool that it was comfortable with us standing around it while it ate. Definitely a cool experience.

wow thats a beautiful bird of prey! im amazed you got so close to it!
