Cloudy eye with growth- pls help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm doing a water change and adding mela and primafix. I don't want to take any chances and have him lose his vision in that eye. I already have one silver with a blind eye lol

Well I cut the medicating treatment short. I was working on my sump and I turn around to find the silver laying on the bottom, gasping for air, and my other aro gasping for air at the surface. I was running two very large air pumps and one of my canisters is set up with a spray bar, but I guess that wasn't enough. I quickly set up a powerhead to shred the air coming out of my one stone, and that seemed to help for a brief period of time. Both the aros got spooked from the powerhead and the bubbles and started jumping and now one has a fairly hefty gash on its head. I decided a water change was needed to reduce the amount of meds in the water and they are both doing better now. Lucky I have fairly heavy lids and a canopy on top, or I'm sure they would have been on the floor. I'm sure the gash will heal up fairly quickly.

On a positive note, the growth/bubble thing on the eye got deflated in all the drama that occurred and its eye seem to be clearing up!

That is the danger of Mela and Pima. It depletes oxygen levels in water.

Give the fish a rest. You are doing all you can.

One of my issues with oil based meds like these is if over used they can interfear with the gills ability to absorbe oxigen and suffocate the fish. I avoid both of these meds as I have never found them more effective than salt which actually also improves resperation. Most eye infections are gram positive and should be treated with Erythromycin if water changes and salt are not effective.

Yup salt and water changes are the best medicine.
