Hi guys.

A little while ago, my blue peacock developed slight clouding on the left eye. I had a closer look and saw a slight scratch on the cornea. I thought i'd give it a day and see what happens. A day later, the cloudiness had resided a little so i thought i'd give it yet another day, I did this and by the forth day, the clouding was gone, but the obvious scratch was still there. About a week ago, it started again, and got really bad and stuck with it for a few days. I thought about the last time it happened and gave it time to reside again. But it didn't for 3 whole days. Only today did I notice it coming down again. the fish is a little skinny, and I think it's because he can't see food out of that eye. Do you have any suggestions? Other than the scratch and cloudiness there is nothing wrong with him, no loss of apitite, no loss of agressiveness (although not as agresive now that the others learn to stick to one side of him) and not hiding away at the back of the tank, always the first to greet me at the water surface.

Any suggestions? Thanks heaps guys and gals. Eric.

Cloudy eyes are generally attributed to tank water conditions. You might try a few consistent water changes and a little salt in the tank. That should clear it right up.

Try Visine?
I only make luight because the last suggestion was spot on!

This will be your best bet.

I have had alot of success treating eye injuries and the resulting cloudy eyes that come from the injuries using melafix and clean water. I start with a 30 to 50 percent water change then add in the melafix (i like to dose slightly less than the instructions on the bottle.) I re dose every other day instead of daily and do a 20 percent water change when i re dose. I have always had success using this. SOme people complain about heavy breathing but i have not had that expereince myself since i treat slightly less than recommended amount and also lower my water level a couple inches so that the filters hanging on the back will dump the water down into the tank, lots of splashing to make surface agitation and air bubbles seems to prevent that for me. Oh, dont forget to remove the activated carbon from your filters. Good luck. I found my melafix cheaper at walmart than petshops ,6 bucks a bottle .

if you have any sharp rocks take them out, same thing happen to me last year,i could not save my baby!!! then about 2 months later happen again but, this time it was not as bad, then i saw the cloudy eye, i tried store brand meditation but it was not working, then i tried garlic, i smashed the garlic real well, put the garlic in the fishnet so the juices only can get in the tank not the garlic, then i left the garlic in the fishnet for three days with fish in the tank,i was so surprised it worked......now i do the same thing when i see any of my fish that are not doing well.....p.s i took my sharp rock out nave happen again....good luck....

not all the time, i did many water changes but did not work and yes water change is always good

I had a terrific peacock get too bad eyes, from protecting his cave. The rough edges did him in. One eyes is fine now, but the other he can not see from although it is healed. He uses his natural eating tendencies to find food. The sonar from the pits on the bottom of the jaw. Do you feed enough for it to sink to the bottom for him to get.?

No rocks in my tank at all. All half rotten soft bogwood. I think it could be from diggging in the sand too profusley? It is almost gone again. But have added a little salt too. I do weekly 40% changes since it started. But the fact that it keeps coming back is worring me. I don't have a QT to place him in tho.

have you tried melafix? also a medication called T.C. Tetracycline clears both external and internal bacterial infections in freshwater aquariums, including: fin and tail rot, bacterial gill disease, hemorrhagic septicemia, open red sores, body slime and eye cloud, and mouth fungus (cotton mouth disease). Active ingredient: 500 mg Tetracycline Hydrochloride per packet. Each packet treats 10 gallons. 850 grams bulk jar treats up to 3,270 gallons.
I used this when i had a fish with the eye cloud and it cleared up in a couple days...
