Completely cover the tank to block out all light for 3-4 days (NO peaking), limit feeding, then do a 50% W/C 2 days in a row and get (borrow?) the UV if possible.

yeah I only get a little bit of algae and only a few different kinds (nothing major) and the tank gets zero direct sunlight and very little indirect sunlight at that...
