Cloudy Water After 2 months!!!

I have two filters a Penguin 350 and Topfin 60, they do about 500-600 gallons an hour. What type of filter media should i put in the bags of the top fin, and does the Penguin have another cartridge that doesnt have carbon? I will be getting a canister soon, but probably wont go in this tank, because i will be moving the 55g fish to a 100+ tank in a few months(and dont have the money right now ). Also will Oscars eat those weekend feeders blocks? I read somewhere that people feed them those but i dont think that is right!

I fill those cartridges myself on my 10 gal QT, I cut them open, empty the carbon out and stuff some biological filter medium in them. Like EhfiSubstrat or so. It might not be a lot, but at least it adds some biological filtration. On my 220 gal I have a canister filter, which makes biological filtration so much easier than with those hanging filters.

I have never used those blocks, I do not trust them and they are more binder than food, as Harley says, a couple weeks without eating will not harm most healthy fish, there are a few nibbler type fish and fry that are exception s to that rule, oscars are not included in the exceptions. Like Harley I replace the charcoal with other stuff, I have used bits of unglazed pottery, lava rock, and even just aquarium gravel.
