Okay, so I tried to save a few bucks by getting a huge bag of pea gravel
from Lowes and then I rinsed the gravel off with a ton of water.
It was so sandy and the water was yellow-orange. Now, the gravel is
in the tank with water from another tank filled 1/3. The tank looks very
cloudy still.

Should I run a good filter for a day and see or was I too cheap to
get real gravel at my LFS?

It doesn't matter were you get gravel. My favorite gravel, my GF and I took from the local resivour after dark, heh heh. But any way... You can buy something called P-clear at your lfs for $2-3 and put it on a rag, then put the rag waded up into your filter and in about 5 hours your water will be crystal! If my description wasnt good enough they have a movie on their website (that you can find on the bottle).

Hope that helped

run a good filter and it will clear up in a few days.

Give it a few days. I prefer patience to chemicals!

I just set up a little planted tank and used a layer of laterite mixed with pool sand and then a layer of pool sand - you cant rinse this laterite as it turns to red mud!! So the tank had pink water for 2 days but its clear now just with normal filtration. Rinse out the prefilter pad or sponge regularly for the first couple of days.

Howdy,

I agree with hardb0iled: Sit it out! :)

Looks like you just set up a new tank. Since I assume there are no fish in it, yet: Here's what I did after setting up my tank with playsand:

Your tank is now filled with cloudy water. Just get all the water out (well, down to 1/2'') and add fresh water carefully. This will get rid of most of the floating dirt and the rest will be diluted. If needed, do it twice in a row. If you do 2x 90% water changes, only 1% of the floaties will remain, and they easily get cleared out by the filter. Then, of course, add water conditioner and bacterial starter.

Good luck,
HarleyK

 I agree. It's probably best to let it run it's course (no chemicals). How long this will take will vary depending on how much water we're talking here & what kinda filtration you have in place. Above all be patient. Good Luck! :)
Peace, MONEY

I also agree, change a good amount water... i say about 1/2 the amount and add new water. Then run a filter and remember to add a very fine filter material to capture whatevers left floating around, then you tank should be clear in about a few days. Good Luck!!

bought mine from LOWES as well. after a good rinsing, mine did appear to be cloudy for a day. so no worries it'll clear up in time. if you're not in a rush about cycling go do water change to speed up the clarity. good luck.
