Hello!

well my new JD's aquarium water is a little cloudy. He has been with me for only a night and 1 day, so im worried that a water change will stress him to much or maybe even harm him

Is it safe to do a little water change to help things improve? or should I just leave it

Thanks

How long has your tank been set up? Size of tank and what filter are you using?

Its been set up for only the time Ive had him. I used a instant cycle product so I didn't really have to wait (it instantly establishes positive bacteria in the filter and water)

The filter is only rated for up to 10 gallons, but it is on a 65 gallon aquarium

I went with a smaller filter because the fish is tiny, and I plan to upgrade it as he grows (which ive heard is perfectly fine to do from multiple people)

Thanks!

I've never used instant cycle products so i can't say. The problem for a 10 gallon filter on a 65 gallon tank is the flow is most likely too weak and the water is stagnant. Did you feed him?

I did feed him, quite a bit actually

GOOD NEWS!!! :D

I just realized that my eyes are playing tricks on me

The aquarium he is in is extremely water stained. So that makes the water look dirty

Also, there is a white blanket draped over 3 sides to give him comfort. this blanket appears GREEN when you look at it through the aquarium. This makes the water look cloudy

To be sure of this hypothesis, I took a cup of water from the aquarium. almost crystal clear. Then I took a cup of water from the tap and compared.

results? Little to no difference at all. So... I am going to get a better filter tomorrow and also bring some water in for parameter testing.. but I think everything is okay and I am just over reacting to a frustrating, yet incredible double optical illusion

Thanks!

Update:

Before I realized there was an illusion going on, I did a 10 gallon, dechlorinated, instant cycle added water change.

I checked just now and it looks perfectly fine. No blankets to make it look green and nasty, and I cleaned the water stains (but.. they seem to always come back. but I went full out so hopefully they wont return)

So, it seems that the problem is resolved. I am still going to get a better filter tomorrow and check parameters

Thanks!
