i got this 55gal from a friend i set it up and from day one the water has been..... i guess milky would be the right word its been about its been about two and a half weeks to three weeks and its still milky i have done about 6 wc and nothing still the same can some one please help

Hmmmm. (scratching head)It could be a bacteria bloom you keep in bloom with large aggressive water changes....maybe? How many fish? Is there major circulation in this tank? Possible stirring of the substrate? Define "milky"....sorta hazy like fine bubbles in the water colomn, or milky like there is a portion of diluted milk in there?
Do you have a test kit to test for ammonia, nitrite and ph? If this tank is lightly stocked and is still cycling then maybe that would explain the persistant cloudyness.
Hold off on waterchanges for a few days (providing you keep an eye on your ammonia and nitrite levels) and see if the cloudy deminishes. Watch your levels and if you see rapid increase in ammonia over just a few days, then do a water change. I would do a 20-25%.
Overfeeding frequently causes bacteria blooms due to the over abundance of nutrients in the water.
A U.V. sterilizer could be a solution.
Good luck.

when i filled the tank the water was already murky so a week later i did a 15% to see if it would make a difference i didn't so i tried a few more times and nothing so i got worried and the last two wc were about 50% and nothing. oh and i looks like milk was diluted in it i only have 4 fish two severums ans 2 albino plecos oh wait five as of tonight a ryukin gold fish it was in my moms 30 gal but it kept messing with my moms lion head :/

Try a 100% water change as long as the PH is the same as when you took the fish out........

Sorry disagree.

The max you should look to water change is 50 %, mature water is a great help to fish plus your likely to lose any BB not only in the filter but the gravel as well.

Unless you've got serious health issues and then treatment should be done to all the water.

Maybe a better filter if it's just crap floating around in there... did you wash it before you filled it up?

1. why not take out the water 100%
2. take out the fish
3. put them in ur moms tank.
4. take 50% of ur mom's water or 75% to ur tank.
5. refill ur moms tank
6. refill ur tank
7. let it cycle for 1 or 2 days minimum
8. Test it out with feeder fish. for 2 days
9. everything goes well throw ur fish in.
10. This should work out best or it can just be ur filter problem.
Remember to add salt/

Mature water :nilly:?! Do you mean aerated? The only way I can see someone losing their BB is if they do not treat their water for chlorine prior to filling............
