Cloudy Water!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
buy some beneficial bacteria solution add that and add get new activated carbon for the filters ,

he tank cycling if its been set up for a while and more to do with impurities. Also, if you over feed or dont clean the gravel enough it will get cloudy also . But i agree Dont change the water too much more until reintroducing the beneficial bacteria to the tank.

Option 1: buy bio spira, check your lfs refrigerated section, look for BioSpira or DrTim's Aquatics One and Only Nitrifying Bacteria to have your tank cycled overnight.

Option 2: remove your fish and let the tank sit for 2 weeks checking water params until nitrite and ammonia = 0. maybe buy a cheap fish that can handle tough water conditions while it cycles.

next time, change one filter at a time, or better yes just rinse the filter for about 10-15 seconds with COLD not hot water. also what fish are in the 75g?

i recommend getting a sponge filter, they hold large amounts of beneficial bacteria.

I'll check my lfs for that stuff tomorrow, thanks. I've got probably 12-15 2" red devil babies in there. You mean a sponge filter like this, http://www.aquariumlife.net/projects/diy-filter/19.asp? Nice avatar by the way, :banhim:

before buying high dollar biospira, it would be smart to do some water testing to find out what the problem really is.

You never answered the questions I asked before;

How long has your tank been setup?

Do you test your water parameters, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates or pH? If do what are the levels?

You mentioned that you changed the filters, does this mean you cleaned them and changed the cartridge or did you get new filters?

What type filters(brand and model) are you running?

There are a few reasons why your tank is cloudy, so provide as much info as possible.

It's been setup for 4 weeks now. I'll test the water parameters and stuff tomorrow again. There's a Whisper 3 that I put brand new cartridges in. I just moved my AC40 over to it also, it had been running on my 20 for about a year now. I didn't change that filter though. I'm thinking aout putting a couple sponge filters in though.

If the AC40 has been running for over a year then it is cycled and should start clearing up the tank. You won't need the biospira. The bad thing about the whisper is that when you change the cartridges you throw away most of the bacteria that has built up on them. For now you can get some pot scrubbies and put in the whisper so the bacteria has somewhere else to grow, but I would look into getting a different filter. Lighten up on feeding and change the water frequently, you need to keep the ammonia and nitrite levels low for the good of your fish. You can also treat with prime to help detoxify the ammonia and nitrite.

a sponge filter is always a good idea. doesn't really filter out anything, just keeps bacteria. unless you have a major air pump for one.
