Cloudy Water

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a fully cycled 72 gallon, and when I moved over the rest of my fish the water got really cloudy. I have tested my water and i'm at 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 40 nitrates. I vacuumed the tank yesterday. I hope it clears soon. I'm just going to wait it out a few more days.

You can also add Carbon and Zeliolites to get your water clear. Just make sure to change it out every 2 weeks or so

:grinno: I dont realy check either but with a Leo and a pup, you better play man to man coverage on those Params big dogg. Especially with that size tank he is in....JMO;)

Honestly I dont think you should worry about anything.
When I usually get a new tank, I let it sit with no water for a min 48hrs to kill off what ever was in the tank before and wipe the tank down real good.
Then do what you did with some water and a filter from an established tank then tap water and add prime to the amount of water in the tank.

I think as long as the lil guy is eating and acting normal... no signs of ribs or death curl, you should be all good.

Just speaking out loud, if you have a HOB overflow, hook it up and toss a powerhead in the 29gl and use it like a mini sump/temp tank. This way you dont have 30 diff tanks of fish that will end up in the same tank anyway.
Thats my plan with my 300gl, to add a 100gl under it as both sump/grow out tank:naughty:

I should definitely have done the 48 hour wait after I cleaned out the tank. I basically cloeaned out the tank and immediately set it up.

Ray is looking pretty good. Eating normally and moving around a lot. Not signs of ribs or death curl as well. Its also starting to develop a deeper black color on its body.

So you are suggesting to use the 30 gallon tank as a sump for the 100 gallon? I don't think I can do that since its beside the 100 gallon. Now adding a powerhead in the 30 gallon tank, that I can definitely do. I guess I will do a daily 20-25% water change until the water clears up. After that, I'll stick back to my weekly water changes of 50%. It worked for her when it was in the 100 gallon when it was sharing the space with a lot of datnoids... Although I had a canister, Penguin 250, and a 30 gallon wet/dry on the 100 gallon tank. Two weeks is the longest time that I waited to do a water change when the leo was already in it. I did it with my juvie motoro as well when I still had it.

Thanks for all the info guys. I really appreciate it. The way I see it, the ray is acting normally. A lot more active if you ask me since it was moved to its own tank. It likes to swim against the glass and then settle in its own little cave as you can see.

By the way, I did a 25% water change last night and now the water is uber clear!!!
