Hi, Long time viewer. First time buyer. I recently did a water change and my tank started to get cloudy water. I was wondering if this can affect my fishes. I have a 55 gal tank with a neon tetra, a rosy barb, some other small thingy, a AUS arowana, and a albino Polypterus of some sort. I got these fishes about 4 weeks ago. Eating strong even now but I am concerned about the water’s condition. I have started this tank a week before I put these fishes in. I know the risk of not having a cycled tank but up until yesterday on the 3rd 30% water change there was nothing wrong. For the water change I added melafix and primefix. My question is will there be any side effects to the water and should I do anything special to get the water to clear up? Here are some pictures. Sorry I'm poor at taking pictures and using a camera.

PS: Can someone teach me how to tell if the water's ammonia is at a safe level. That ammonia alert thingy I got doesn't seem to explain how to use it.
Thanks,
Peter.

why did you add mela and pima fix?????

water is cloudy cause you are probably entering a cycle... i would add a product like cycle or seachem stability to boost your bio filter...

throw that thing out the window... go buy a real test kit and use that for now... after a few months throw your kit out the window as well.. will only cause you a headache...

welcome to mfk....

Hey, Thanks for the quick response. I added M/Pfix to my tank because there was also fighting and some fins have been ripped.
Thanks,
Peter

:welcome: to MFK!

Pick the API liquid test kit for accurate results and avoid the test strips due to gross inaccuracy.

doesnt look too bad..but there is some stuff you can buy from your lfs for cloudy or murky water

Hey, Thanks for the replies. Is it safe to let the tank go on without the cloudy water meds? And its a whole lot worse right about now. The water is getting a greenish brown kind of cloudy water now.
Thanks,
Peter.
PS: Ive been a mfk member since 2005. XD

What is the tank's filtration system? Looks like you only have a sponge filter and that is it...IF that is the only thing than probably under filtration is the problem...IF that is the case then get two AC110 or 2 Emperor 400.

Yes I highly suggest that you get Crystal Clear it works really good. What type of filter? I used a power filter for a while but they stink, I now have a canister that overfilters 60gals and my water is now crystal clear. I used to have the same problem so thats what I suggest. BTW Welcome

With cloudy water, you do not need chemicals. Just test your water parameters and do water changes wherever necessary. Do you use dechlorinator?

Thanks guys for all the great ideas. I had a Ehiem 215? in there but it killed my smaller parrot so i took it off, fearing that other fishes can get stuck on it. my fishes are really small at the moment. my current filters are the box air filter and a sponge filter. >Lupin< Yep, i use dechlorinator called Stress Coat+. Here are some updated pics and some of the fishes.
