Hello, i have a 150 gallon with a xp3 and a xp2 on it but my water is cloudy. Its currently stocked with
1x albino O
1x leopard catfish
1x frontosa
1x red flowerhorn
1x jack dempsy
Had a turquoise servem, peacock eel, calvus, firemouth but my catfish seem to be able to fit anything into his mouth.
After a water change the water is clear for a day and then gets vary cloudy.
Ive even cleaned both my filters and a 50% water change the other day hoping it would fix my problem but no woke up this morning and the water was cloudy. I'm thinking its the sand i have in the tank (African cichlid sand) that could be making it cloudy no clue tho. Any help or advice? been thinking of going back to gravel do to i haven't found a good method to vac sand.

Your benefitial bacteria took a serious hit.

Ive learned to never to water changes and clean your filters at the same time. You tank is going through some sort of mini-cycle where the bacteria have to recolonize. You really need to keep an eye on your ammonia and nitrite levels because they could very well spike at any time in the situation your in. For now DO NOT overfeed. Feed them only what they eat even less. 25% water changes twice a week and you tank will clear up.

Vacing sand is much easier than gravel. All the waste sits on top of the sand rather than sinking down into it. All you do is get a 5gal buck and a gravel vac. Hover the vac about 1/4 inch above the sand where it will suck up the waste but not the sand. Of course you will get a little sand but thats ok.

Thats what i was thinking and your probably right. I had to clean the pumps and the water at the same time tho because the tank hadn't been cleaned for the longest time do to my girlfriend >;O. Thanks for the tip on vaccing sand Ive been so paranoid about accidentally sucking sand out of my tank.

Just tested the water: nitrite 0, nitrate 0, ammonia 0

Your post said "did 50% water change the other day". How long ago was your last water change before you tested the water? Becasue you have zeros accross the board, I'm wondering if your test kit is bad or if you didn't perform the test properly. You should have some readings of something. If you tank is re-cyclying, there should be some ammonia or nitrite registering during the test. If your tank is cycled, you should have some nitrate registering.

I did a the water change last night and tested it this morning and i dont think the test kit is bad got them not to long ago both API brand.

I would go over the instruction for each test agian to make sure that they are followed properly.
