CLOUDY WATER :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A DE filter is a diatomaceous earth (I hate it when people throw out abbreviations and expect me to know what they are talking about but I can never spell that without looking it up... sorry) also known as a Diatom filter in the aquarium world. Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder of dead microscopic diatom organism shells. The shells have a ton of small holes through them. A DE filter has a filter bag that you cover with the diatomaceous earth powder (pump water through the bag and add DE powder to the water). The small pore size of the DE and huge number of them make for an excellent filter. I guess DE filters are used in beer and wine filtering as well as other food grade liquid filter applications. Swimming pool DE filters are also very popular. It has been stated that DE filters are fine enough to filter ICH and other bacterial/fungal based diseases from the water. I can testify that my DE filter cleaned up a green water outbreak in a couple of hours.

It is a great tool for clean water fanatics... But I don't run mine continuously, just a couple times a month.

Yeah dude if your lights are on more than 8 hours a day your gonna get a white milky color in your tank thats an eye sore.

Thats why im asking if they are on that long you should set like a time schedule for lights on and off.

^ my lights are on for almost 8 hours on my tank. never cloudy.

Yeah but at a consistent rate the water will turn cloudy it happened to me when i went on vacation i left the lights on and my i forgot the person feeding my fish never turned them off either so i screwed up but the water turned into a murky white color.

tested my water it has 0 amonina 0 nitrite 0 nitrate. All my parameter is good, so why is it my tank is murky :(
Those are great numbers for drinking water, but not if your trying to cycle a tank.
With 0 ammonia, you must not have any fish in there????
Best guess, you have a bacterial bloom.
Most all new/fresh tanks get them.
You need to get a handle on the nitrogen cycle and how it works.
Milky/white-ish water is a classic sign of a tank out of balance.
Even with media from a healthy tank you can have an un-cycled condition.

^^This.

I agree that you are having a bacteria bloom. As mentioned, just be patient and it should clear up.

By the way, if it is cloudy white, it is a bacteria bloom. If it is a cloudy green, then it is an algae bloom.

Got another AC110, tank is starting to look better, thanks for everyone's suggestion! oughtsix, thanks but that sounds really complicated and I dished out too much already in this tank D:
