why would you want to cut the fishes teeth?

Without proper diet, the teeth keep growing to the point were it becomes difficult for them to eat and they slowly starve.

puffers do NOT have to have dental work done if given a propper diet...

snails are basicly free.. any petco you walk into that has a plant tank will let you pick out all the snails you want... if its that much of an issue you should think about not keeping puffers

Well obviously these puffers haven't had the proper diet, hyothetically speaking. :grinno:

I did exactly this to my South American Puffers today. No matter what you feed these guys, their teeth always seem to grow too long.It was quite tricky as their only small, but went well and they are begging for food as i type this.Im gonna use MS222 next time,as ive heard the clove oil can brain-damage them if used too often.

Found my old pics. These are pics of me clipping my brazilian puffers teeth.
I was 18 or 19 at the time. He was the first fish I ever owned. Some girl came into the petsmart I was working at and held up this little guy.
She had no idea how to take care of it. She was hot, so I took it off her hands.
When I got him, he was skinny as a rail and his teeth were completely covering his mouth.

lol, not so much. There are species (such as gsp's, etc) that the tooth structure can be controlled by diet, since we can offer them many the foods they find in the wild. Many other species, however, tend to eat things in the wild that 1) we can't provide to them or 2) are very expensive to.

I only use clove oil for euthanizing. It works for anesthetizing, but like stated before, can cause brain damage in your fish after repeated use. It works in a pinch, but if you do it over and over, your fish will start swimming and acting differently.

Get finquel, or some other type of fish anesthetic. Sure it's a little more expensive, but your fish will thank you for it.
