Clown Knife and Cichlids

I dont have a ck yet but i want one i might waight intill i set up my pretor tank with a ck, jarg, wolf , barramundi. Thats still a year and a half away yet. Its gunna be a big tank
 
CKs gets scars very easily. I had a CK with an Oscar, JD, Jag, and a couple of Cats. It was pretty scarred up.
 
benzjamin-point I was trying to make earlier-so if an Oscar or cichlid can scar up a CK imagine a Wolf-the wolf fish will probably kill the CK.
 
So CK's are usually peaceful, pushover fish except when it comes to feeders? I have mine with a golden severum which is not as aggressive as a RD, GT or JD and the two get along very well. My clown knife is 4 inches and the severum 2.5 inches.

I've always been afraid to mix a knife fish with aggressive cichlids for fear of them picking/biting away at the knife until the knife was dead.
 
I need to include that I just set the tank up so there probably hasn't been enough time to have problems. I wanted to buy an ornate bichir, but I keep hearing how plecos kill them, so I decided to wait on that.

CKs usually get along with fish they don't see as prey. They're not really pushovers per say...they can hold their own, but they seems to get scars very easily so they end up looking very beat up compared to Cichlids which can heal with little or no scarring. There are some CKs that are very aggressive. If you look at most books, they say that they are aggressive and should be kept alone. I have found that it's like a 75%/25% with the smaller percentage being on the really aggressive side.

I see, but its just hard to think that a 14 inch RD can beat a two foot CK with the CK being so much larger. It kinda makes me think the CK is defenseless against larger fish, but I got a CK anyway since its my favorite. ;)
 
The clown knife should have a minimum of 300 gallons but i also want to set up a tank like yours except mine is going to be about 500 gallons if i can find that size otherwise i will go with a 360 read my thread two clown knifes in one tank it should help you
 
I had a two foot CK almost get killed by an 1 foot Red Devil in a 1032 gallon pond. And CK's aren't neccessarily push overs and they can get aggressive but not in the league of the cichlids. I had one with a TSN and an Achara Cat and it would nip at them at times but nothing like a cichlid would do.
 
Depends on the size of the CK. I personally would make sure the CK is a healthy length longer than the rest of the crowd. My CK doesn't mess with anyone unless he thinks it's food (less than 5inches) but he will push back if someone messes with him. ---> Jardini got messed up from the CK
