Hey everyone, does anyone know how well clown knifefish and frontosa's get on?
i know they can be put together but no ones sure of how they will be together regarding their attitudes. their will be one 8" clown and 2 4"frontosas in a 5x2x3 ft tank for about 6 months then be upgraded as i am aware that they need more room.:) they will have a sand substrate and rock caves and a large plant pot for the knifefish to cower in during the day lol.
if you could just give me some feedback to make sure im alonfg the right lines that would be fantastic! :D

cheers

BUMP

yeah, any info ? Im thinking of doing the same thing. I have 6 juvie frontosa (2-5 inches) , 2 red empress (4 inches), 1 blue dolphin (2 inches), 1 chilotilapia rhoadesii (4 inches), 1 mbuna, in a six foot 135 gallon tank. I also have 13 1 inch frontosa babies that i can put in the six foot tank.

On saturday i have a 7 foot 265 gallon tank coming. (was planning on it being for the 13 babies and the blue dolphin) I could put the knife in here as he outgrows the 6 foot tank to keep him from eating the baby fronts. I just dont know about there temperment with non aggressive passive fronts and hyper redempress ? My well water is hard with a ph of 8.5-9 right out of the tap.

Thanks.

i think u will be ok with knife and fronts, done loads of research and they seem ok together as they are both aggresive but only if provoked. i was hoping for more replys but no one seems interested. i will have mine in a 70 gallon tank for 6 months then planning on doing one huge custom tank in a room in my house so that they will have the space

Would be a good combo they like the same water and fronts and clowns aren't aggressive so you'd be fine as long as you got a bigger tank a clown would out grow that tank

a 265 would work for a long time as long as it is wide enough

hey, cheers for the advice. do plan on getting a bigger tank this is just to get me by for a few months.

word . should be all good then only possible problem would be the knifes may pick on the fronts if the don't have enough room but the majority of clowns are pretty peacful

well im thinking of giving the knife his own tank with the plec whos of a similar size, then because iv got 2 male fronts, giving them 6 females.....just to keep them happy :naughty: haha. but they will also have there own tank. i want to make them as happy as possible. i did have 2 silver dollars and was going to have them with the fronts and 2 blood parrots. but the silver dollars were too different to the fronts and parrots. so i gave thm to my lfs in exchange for the clown knife....love at first sight...but im not getting the blood parrots now...too much in the tank. DAMMIT!!!
what do u reccomend i put in first? the clown and plec or the fronts?
they arnt in the tank yet as im making sure the water is mature enough, so the fish r being held by my lfs....i said that to someone else and they thought i had them all in a big bowl :screwy::ROFL:

sorry to write so much, i just want as much advice as possible so i dont get it wrong

i would put the clown and plec in first let them settle and then add the fronts, don't make the mistake of putting the small fronts in with the knife until they are larger even an 8" clown has a deceptively large mouth and can take a fish 2" long ! i used to have a gachua snakehead in with my fronts and all was well as they are both pretty peaceful good luck Paul:)

hey paul,
well the fronts are around 6inches and the knifes about 8, but i was thinkin that as the fronts r smaller maybe give them the "right" of territory, then a week or 2 later introduce the knife and front. i know that the knife will usually ignore terrotorial advances from other fish but im thinkin...will the fronts cope if the knife decides to get territorial if he goes in first...does that make sense???? now dont get me wrong, i love my fronts :grinno: ( to the pointwhere i actually go in to the shop and watch them and talk to them ((yes im aware of how i dont have a life)) , but that 90squids worth of fish down the drain and 4 months of holdin reserved from the lfs. im not willing to lose that in the 1st night.
but cheers for the advice, my tanks been up and runnin for the last 2 weeks and i cant wait to get something in it!!!! but if i get the knife and then the fronts it and the knife eats them....it will be you im comin to get haha :)
