hey paul,
well the fronts are around 6inches and the knifes about 8, but i was thinkin that as the fronts r smaller maybe give them the "right" of territory, then a week or 2 later introduce the knife and front. i know that the knife will usually ignore terrotorial advances from other fish but im thinkin...will the fronts cope if the knife decides to get territorial if he goes in first...does that make sense???? now dont get me wrong, i love my fronts :grinno: ( to the pointwhere i actually go in to the shop and watch them and talk to them ((yes im aware of how i dont have a life)) , but that 90squids worth of fish down the drain and 4 months of holdin reserved from the lfs. im not willing to lose that in the 1st night.
but cheers for the advice, my tanks been up and runnin for the last 2 weeks and i cant wait to get something in it!!!! but if i get the knife and then the fronts it and the knife eats them....it will be you im comin to get haha :)
chloe.
hi chloe yes i reckon that might just work as i know fronts are not that territorial especially at a young age,but if they are your faves then i think that maybe you should keep them on their own or with some other cichlids such as some of the more peaceful malawi haps or i've even seen them with silver dollars for something different although the two wouldn't normally mix but it has been done with some success, just thinking that the knife might take a bite at night as they sometimes do and hurt your babies!!!whatever you decide good luck and i hope it all goes well Paul:):):)

i did have 2 silver dollars but they were a nightmare and when i did more research on them i found that they didnt really go with fronts so thats how i ended up with the knifefish. traded the silver dollars for him and a plec. lol.
i just cant say no. but i have a 2 year old daughter who used to run up to the tank and smash in to it and shout at them, and they used to go nutty. it was unfair on them so i now have the fish tank behind the sofa lol

i can see now why you got the knife ! maybe you could also go for a polypterus endlicheri congicus as they are sometimes found in lake Tanganyika ! hope it all works out for you Paul

now if ud just said it was a congo bichir, i would have understood what u were talking about!!! haha.
but would that go with the fronts aswell?

funnily enough could only remember that name! i don't know for sure but if clown knife ok then i can't see why not
