Just purchased a small (4-5'') clown knife about 3 days ago. He hasnt eaten yet and was curious on how long or even how to get him to eat. When i put my tsn in it took him 6 days to finally start eating. Was curious if anyone else has had a similar problem.

The fish may need to get used to it's surroundings. I wouldn't worry until you hit a week or more.

always good to find out what the previous keepers were feeding it... fingers crossed it wasnt live feeding...hehe...

i would prolly get in contact with them and find out for sure... ;)

It'll start eating soon. Try frozen bloodworms.

Thats what I have been trying to feed it. I am hoping that within the next day he/she decides to get the munchies and wants to eat

feeders work like magic, some people find them to be a pain though. Smaller clowns generally do well with bloodworm blocks as mentioned before. Give him some time though, they can span out their feedings for weeks.

does the knife have hiding spots and places that shield him from the lighting? if hes just out there under the lighting he might feel stressed and panicky, create a couple options of hiding spots for the fish and see if it relaxes and settles in more. Also, these fish hunt in extremely dark waters and are generally nocturnal feeders until they get comfortable in the tank, you might want to try dropping some suitable sized feeders in the tank overnight and check the results in the morning (generally small comets are slow enough to be an easy meal). I've never seen a knife, even a dying knife, turn down a feeder. What other types of fish are in the tank? If there are other aggressive heavy eaters the knife also may not have the option of getting a good pick at the food. They are reclusive and ambush eaters at that size generally, so take that into consideration. Good luck and keep us posted!

Clown Knives are on the timid side with other fish in the tank that may be bigger then him..what other fish are with him..and i would definitly think the LFS was feeding him live fish.. mine was four inches when i got him and it took me a couple of weeks to get him off of live food..i fed him guppys just to get him settled in and then switched him over once he was comfortable with his surroundings..because as we all know feeding live food is taking a big chance with diseases that harbour with in the feeders..but right now i would rather see him eat.. just so you know he is okay.

yeh again, lets just pray he wasnt fed live food. or u will pull out ure hair trying to convert him. my CKs are virtually impossible to convert after 4 years....so yeh...good luck!
