Clown knife not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OMG OMG OMG!

I decided to try to put him in a seperate tank to feed him so i filled up the old five gallon with water from his tank and put him in. Then i threw in 2 rosy reeds and frozen bloodworms. I saw him chase the fish a little then he stopped and then, when he was swimming on the bottom, he started eating the bloodworms! one at a time but still eating! Here are some pics of him, and one of his little belly bulge.

thanks, now i just have to make sure that he is eating in his aquarium.

turns out he doesn't eat in the tank. he always just hides. Anyone have any ideas?

careful of the tankmates. in my experience clown knives hide for a good reason (unlike catfish that just hide 24/7). i had one that hid all the time which was frustrating, until a month later he started to become more energetic and eating, then my channel catfish which was 2" smaller than it killed it.

Definitely get him a little bulkier. Oscars can be little b*stards when it comes to food and you might end up having to make a decision there. Congrats on getting him to eat!

Its not my oscar thats he problem, the food falls right in front of the clown knife but it swims away. Sometimes I can get him to eat a pellet or two but thats hard.

hello. i'm new to mfk, so some of my advice might be worth ignoring :)

my clown knife was very shy, like yours. mine took 2 weeks for it to eat. i rescued mine from a shop that had it in a tank full of tiger barbs, with no plants or hiding places. i want a bigger tank anyway so im using this fish as the excuse.

it took a while for my fish to get comfortable. a week spent behind the pump. another in the plants, and then one day it stole a prawn from one of my pacu, and ever since then its been out all the time. i'll take a wild guess and say it was a bit stressed in the LFS.

i just feed mine frozen prawns, and pellets. i guess once theyre hungry they dont usually refuse food. but like with my clown knife, it could still be settling in, so you may just have to sit it out.

id say give it some hiding places, but your tank looks like it has enough plants to me. either add more or leave the light off till it starts to feel more comfortable...
