I've received a CK from a friend who is going away to college. It's about 11" and for the first 4 days, glided around checking out his new digs. I also received about 50 rosies as feeders. I fed the rosies for the first 4 days and on the fifth, there were no rosies to feed; the CK ate every single one in one evening. Will feeding him fewer but larger fish keep me from stocking that many feeders? Incredibly voracious fish; I really thing he's quite cool!

Have you tried feeding anything else?

If you are concerned about so many feeders and maybe even price.. then i would start the pellet or other non live training ;)

But generally you can get away with larger and less;) I would go with something at least eqaual to five rosies ;)

for the price, you cant go wrong with tilapia fillets, and shrimp. thats what mine east every day, and a few pellets on the side for vitamins and whatnot.

I get a big bag of the tilapia fillets for like 7 dollars. And i cut one fillet into golfish size strips...
HE loves them!

I've not tried feeding her anything else. I just put 12 medium sized goldfish in with her last night. She ate 10 and two died presumably after getting away from her; there are huge deep wounds around the dead fish. I think the tilapia is a good idea. I'll try that soon.

Thanks
Dan

Definitely variety is the way to go. I have one that isn't eating feeders (just occassionally), but I only gave him free-dried shrimp (only one brank), now it seems like it won't touch anything else except for feeders.

All right, he wouldn't touch the tilapia chunks. I'll be persistent but, I'm going to try freeze-dried shrimp next. He did take a couple of jabs at the Koi removing scales by the dozen.

I'm sorry I didn't mention that it took mine a while to eat the tilapia.

Try feeding it a few more times. Once he eats it and realizes its good he will be hooked.

I also hand feed my clown knife shrimp and silversides.

I'll keep on trying the tilapia. I did get a little worried as I tend to baby my fish a lot so I gave him some feeders tonight. Weird thing. He bites the hell out of some of the feeders and then leaves them to die painful bloody deaths. He only seems to eat one of every two he bites.

try large cichlid pellets (mine is 5 inches and eats medium size pellets) i recomend hikari cichlid gold, the one in the red bag with an oscar, a firemouth, and a red terror on the front.
