Clown knife... with no spots?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Holy crap man, where did you find this thread? it's nearly a year old! I bought the fish - he's quite a character. a bit cold and unfriendly, but very active. He likes to irritate my oscar - nobody seems to ever get hurt but there is a lot of back and forth between the two of them.

Hello, new to the forum. I just purchased 2 clown knifes, one with the classic spots and one with none(and slightly darker color). They are hatchlings of the same clutch. I believe it is a just a lottery and luck to find one with no markings.

Then it's possible that you're looking at Notoperus Notoperus. Also known as the Asian Black Featherfin or Bronze Knife. They average about 12" and I've heard that they are the most aggressive out of the Asian Knife species.
i agree probly an asian knife

I got the two from Browns in East Longmeadow, they get odd fish every once in a while and have always had good luck with them.I am assuming they are from the same clutch, they are identical sizes and features, just different markings, they recieved both and were told they were clown knife fish. I will attempt to get a picture of them together tonight, I am just not wanting to disrupt there setup too much, as they are eating well and hunting each night.I am pretty sure it isn't a asian knife as they have more rounded features and less of a hump. I'll get a picture.
