They grow very fast and can outgrow other fish. Dont have anything that will pick on them because they will fight back and will beat the crap out of the other fish.

I HOPE SO! I was feeding mine beef heart this morning before leaving for work as usual, and he grabbed a chunk a bit too big to swallow. So he kinda went off to the side of the tank and kept spitting it out and eating it again. Needless to say, the other fish were attracted to this, including my Oscar. The O made a lunge for the beef heart and actually caught the CK in his mouth! I was so fired up that I reached in the tank with my uniform on and pushed the O away. Poor CK went and cowered in the corner. Poor little guy didn't know what to make of it. He looks fine now, but when he gets larger I'll laugh watching him keep the O in line. The Oscar isn't really aggressive at all, he's just a huge pig that has to eat EVERYTHING IN THE TANK.
He's probably a little jealous, knowing that the CK is now my fave. ;)

It is funny how some want them on feeders and some want them off feeders.. we should all trade and get the one we want...LOL

Last one I had would eat anything that fit in his mouth, including what was sticking out of the oscars mouth. Unfortunately for him the oscar took offense and ate him instead.

Hes quite a good eater, he takes pellets of the surface with the rest of the guys ive not tried him on any feeders yet (the kids would kill me lol). He hides away a bit more now though only to surface at feeding time.

You are lucky! When I first got my CK's they would only eat live feeders and bloodworms. One CK is now 12" and would eat 5 to 7 feeder goldfish a day! I had to starve him for 3 days and he eventually came around and started to eat my arowana sticks with my aro. Now he loves pellets and aro sticks. Unfortunately my other CK is still on strike. He wants nothing to do with pellets. He will not eat for a week straight so I toss bloodworms in once a week so the guy doesn't starve. I hope his will breaks down before he dies of starvation.

I love my ck, he is around a foot long. I have only been feeding him feeders. I may try other things for him.

well, ive been told that in captivity thay can reach 2 feet, and close to 2 meeters in the wild. but any ways, there are ways to get him onto pelets. i know of one person who has done that, and now i am going to attempt that. basically, if its with other fish, you feed him fish at first, if he is large enough. than you start putting in other foods, like blood or black worms, and get him used ot stuff that sinks. than eventually use sinking pelets, and than youre golden, feed him that for a while than once and a while give him something live. if you are going to go completley one live foods, try to gut load, that way he gets proper nutrition.
mine eats pellets readily and ate 6 half inch-1 inch rosy reds:WHOA: i bought last night and was hungry again this morning for more pellets:ROFL:. he is a character!!:nilly:

I'll move this to the right section for ya.

Carnivore... market shrimp, beefheart, blood worms, blackworms, mysis shrimp, and squid/octopus will all be readily accepted. They will also go after ghost shrimps, and many other small shrimps, small fish such as tetras, and night crawlers. Eventual size: 48".

I have to agree! We have two of them and they will love blood worms, and small fish. :( I don[t like to see them eat the small fish, but they love worms, and the blood worms.

get him blood worms, we got one of ours because the store didn't think he was gonna make it - not eating etc. and well my husband took pity on him and we got him home gave him lots a hiding spaces, in the tank and gave him blood worms and cichlid pellets various times through out the day, he is a monster now. grew fast. We said that the blood worms must be like steroids. haha
